Understanding Your Dashboard

Dashboard Overview
The CohortGenie dashboard is designed to give you the full revenue health picture in one screen. No clicking through 12 tabs. No exporting to Excel. Open it, read it, talk to your client about it.
Here's what you're looking at.
Stats Cards
The top of the dashboard shows four key metrics:
- GDR (Gross Dollar Retention) — what percentage of last period's revenue you kept, ignoring expansion. This tells you about leakage.
- NDR (Net Dollar Retention) — same idea, but includes expansion revenue. Can exceed 100%. This tells you whether existing customers are growing or shrinking.
- LTV (Customer Lifetime Value) — estimated total revenue a customer generates over their lifetime. Calculated from average revenue per customer and churn rate.
- Active Customers — count of customers with at least one transaction in the selected period.
Each card shows the current value and trend compared to the prior period. Green arrow up is good. Red arrow down means something needs attention.
Revenue Waterfall Chart
Below the stats cards, the waterfall chart breaks revenue movement into components:
- Starting revenue from existing customers
- New revenue from first-time customers
- Expansion from existing customers who spent more
- Contraction from existing customers who spent less
- Churned revenue from customers who stopped buying entirely
- Ending revenue total
This is the chart that makes advisory conversations click. Instead of "revenue went up 5%," you can say "you lost $12K in churn but gained $18K in expansion from existing customers."
Insights Panel
The right side of the dashboard shows automated insights — things CohortGenie noticed in the data that are worth your attention. These might include unusual churn spikes, cohorts that are outperforming, or expansion trends.
Period and Year Selectors
Use the controls at the top to switch between monthly and quarterly views, and to navigate between years. The dashboard recalculates everything when you change the period.
Sidebar Navigation
The left sidebar takes you deeper:
- Heatmap — the full cohort retention grid
- Comparison — benchmark cohorts against each other
- Forecast — revenue projections based on cohort behavior
- Customers — individual customer-level transaction detail
- Segments — filter and group customers (Professional tier)
Cohort Filters (Professional Tier)
Professional subscribers get access to the filter bar, which lets you slice cohort data by custom segments — product line, customer type, geography, or any dimension you define. This is how you go from "retention is dropping" to "retention is dropping specifically in the wholesale segment."
Start with the dashboard home. When something catches your eye, drill into the specific view to get the full story.
