Getting Started

You signed up. Now what? Here's the fastest path from new account to actionable revenue data.

The whole thing takes about 5 minutes, and most of that is waiting for the initial data sync.

Step 1: Create a Workspace

After signing in, you'll land on the workspace creation screen. Two things to decide:

  • Workspace name. Use your client's business name — or your firm name if you're connecting your own books first. You can rename it later.
  • Workspace type. Choose Firm if you're an accounting firm connecting multiple clients. Choose Business if you're a single business tracking your own revenue. This affects how the sidebar and portfolio views are organized, but you can change it later if needed.

Click Create Workspace and you're in.

Step 2: Connect QuickBooks Online

Your new workspace is empty until you connect a data source. Right now, that means QuickBooks Online.

Click Connect QuickBooks on the dashboard (or go to Integrations in the sidebar). You'll authorize through Intuit's OAuth flow — CohortGenie gets read-only access. See Connecting QuickBooks Online for the detailed walkthrough.

Step 3: Wait for the Initial Sync

Once connected, CohortGenie pulls historical transaction data from QuickBooks. This includes invoices, sales receipts, credit memos, and refund receipts — everything needed to build your cohort picture.

The initial sync typically takes 2–5 minutes. You'll see a progress indicator. Go grab coffee.

Step 4: Explore Your Dashboard

When the sync finishes, your dashboard lights up:

  • Stats cards show GDR, NDR, LTV, and Active Customers at a glance
  • Revenue waterfall breaks down new, expansion, contraction, and churned revenue
  • Insights panel highlights trends worth paying attention to

This is the data you need to have better conversations with your client about their revenue health — and it took less time than opening a spreadsheet.

About Your Trial
